Here are some commonly asked questions about self storage.


What is Self Storage?

Self storage is your own safe secure space away from your home or business.

Why use self storage?

Self storage offers a safe secure and flexible temporary or permenant solution tailored exactly to your needs for many situations.

Domestic customers use self storage when :

  • Moving House
  • Renovating or decorating and they need to keep their possessions safe
  • Relocation
  • Somewhere to store belongings while travelling
  • Storage for hobby or sports equipment which is taking over your home or garage
  • When you just dont have enough space or want to declutter

Business Customers use self storage for:

  • Archiving files to free up office space
  • Seasonal and excess stock
  • Trade supplies and equipment
  • Exhibition and event equipment

How much does it cost?

House-It have a variety of unit sizes at different prices. Let us know what you want to store either by phone, e-mail or via our free online quote form and we will give you a good idea of the size you need and how much this will cost.

How do I rent a unit?

Simply call us to reserve a unit or pop in and we will be happy to help you complete the simple Storage Agreement.

Please note that you will also need to provide ID at the time of move in.

You will also need a padlock and we require an initial payment of 4 weeks storage charges less any discounts we may be offering. There is also a refundable deposit required for the personalised key access to the storage area.

Do I need to book a unit in advance?

We strongly recommend you give us a call so that we can reserve a specific unit for you since availability can sometimes be limited.

However, as long as we have a suitable unit available you can simply arrive at the store, complete the Storage Agreement & ID check, and move in.

What if I need more/less space?

Providing we have availability, you can transfer to a larger or smaller room at any time without penalty. Your storage charges will be amended accordingly from the day you transfer.

How long can I store for?

You can stay as long as you like, there’s no minimum storage period and you can vacate without giving notice. When you leave, the charges will be adjusted accordingly and you will be refunded any advance payment you have made for days you haven’t used.

What can I store?

Almost anything - furniture, books, clothes, personal effects, appliances, files, office equipment, documents, excess stock etc. However, please note that we cannot accept flammable, perishable or illegal goods.

Will my belongings be safe?

We have 24 hr internal and external CCTV surveillance, smoke detectors and intruder alarm systems operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

You hold the only key to your room and access to the store is controlled by our personalised key fob entry system so your belongings are as safe with us as in your own home or business premises.

What’s included in the price?

Everything - rates, electricity, heating, security etc.

All you need is a padlock and packing materials.

Why do I need a padlock?

You need your own padlock (padlocks are available for sale from our onsite retail area), to ensure that your room is kept secure at all times.

What about insurance?

Your goods must be insured whilst in store with us. Cover may already be provided via an existing policy you hold (for example your household Insurance policy), but if this is not the case you will need to obtain suitable cover before storing.

We are able to offer a low cost insurance option should you need this. Please feel free to ask for further information and we will send this to you.

When can I get access to my belongings?

We are open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday and access outsite these hours can often be arranged with prior notice.

How do I pay?

You can pay by Credit/Debit Card, Cheque, Cash or Standing Order just let us know your prefered method.

Please note that we are unable to accept cash for the initial storage charges and these need to be paid by either Credit/Debit Card or Cheque.

Can you help with packing materials?

Yes. As well as padlocks we can supply racking, boxes, tape, bubble wrap, dust sheets, marker pens and many other packing supplies you may need all available from our onsite retail area.

We do not operate our own removals service however we are happy to recommended local independent and professional removal contractors or why not take a look at our useful services links for more information.
